Charlotte Community Health Clinic

2009-2010 Komen Charlotte Founder’s Award

Each year the Charlotte Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure recognizes a unique grantee with their Founder’s Award. This year, Komen Charlotte was delighted to present the award to the Charlotte Community Health Clinic.

The Founder’s Award honors the accomplishments of Penelope Wilson, founder of the Komen Charlotte Race for the Cure and the Affiliate’s first executive director, and it recognizes a grant recipient that through their creative spirit, perseverance, passion, and community involvement finds new ways to serve the mission of Komen Charlotte.

The Charlotte Community Health Clinic provides Komen-funded screening mammography, clinical breast exams and breast healthcare education to underserved and uninsured patients at the clinic. This is the sixth year that Komen Charlotte has partnered with the Charlotte Community Health Clinic on their breast health programs, and each year the program continues to grow and serve more members of the community.                                                                                                

Nancy Hudson (pictured), executive director of the Charlotte Community Health Clinic remarked, “Komen Charlotte has been a great friend to those in our community who are low-income and uninsured. Through the grant funding from Komen Charlotte, the Charlotte Community Health Clinic has not only changed lives but saved lives through early detection of breast cancer. We thank Komen Charlotte for being a wonderful partner and enabling us to provide quality healthcare to our patients.”
