The Pink Ribbon Posse team was formed in 2008 when Susan Sears emailed a group of her friends and neighbors and asked if they wanted to join her in the Race for the Cure. Susan’s mother-in-law, Theresa Sears, had lost her battle to breast cancer and she wanted to raise funds in her memory. When Susan emailed a request for donations to family members, she found out that her Great-Grandmother, Alta Bowlby, had suffered from breast cancer as well. The email Susan sent generated a team of 15 women who raised over $7,500 that first year!
Last year the ‘Posse’ doubled its team numbers AND fundraising dollars. This year our team consists of 30 members (5 of whom are young girls) and we are on our way to surpassing last year’s fundraising amount.
Our Fundraisers this year include:
Please join us at Cru Wine Shop on Thursday, September 30, 2010 from 6:30-8pm for a Wine tasting event, including appetizers and live acoustic music. Cru will donate $5 from the admission fee ($20) and 10% of sales to the Komen Race for the Cure!
The Pink Ribbon Posse started because of the loss of two family members, but the reason this team continues to fight for a cure is also because of the countless survivors who are neighbors, friends, family, and co-workers. On the back of our team shirts are the names of the women we fundraise for in an ‘In honor of’ and ‘In memory of’ list. Each year names are added to our shirt. This is just one of the reasons why we will not stop until there is a cure!
