How Komen Charlotte Makes a Difference in Our Community

Of the money raised by the Charlotte Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, up to 75% of our net income stays in the local community to fund breast cancer education, screening, and treatment programs to underserved women.

The remaining net income (a minimum of 25 percent) supports the National Award and Research Grant Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs around the world.

Following is a breakdown of how the $1.8 million that we have granted this year will be used:

Since 1997, the Komen Charlotte Affiliate has awarded:

• Over $9.5 million locally through our community grants program which supports education, screening and treatment programs.

  Community Profile

  In order to ensure our funds are making the greatest impact, the Komen Charlotte Affiliate works with local medical experts and community leaders to conduct a comprehensive community needs assessment. The community profile is then used to establish a local grant application and review process consistent with the Organization’s high standards and mission.
