Local Breast Health Resources

Thanks to the generosity of donors and sponsors, our Affiliate is able to fund many breast-health and breast cancer-related programs in this area. 

The following non-profit organizations are recipients of the 2009/2010 Komen Charlotte community grant funds providing breast health education, screening and treatment services for underinsured, uninsured, or medically underserved individuals in our 9-county service area.

This program was established to address the increasing health issues of the growing Latino community in North Mecklenburg.

The “Screening, Diagnostic Services, Genetic Testing, and Breast Health Outreach for the Medically Underserved” program provides screening as well as quarterly education outreach to medically underserved women in the community targeted for Latino and African American women. Presbyterian is working with community groups, faith-based institutions and free clinics to identify women for the screenings.

The “Treatment Induced Financial Crisis Aid for Patients Diagnosed with Breast Cancer” program provides one-time financial assistance to women who because of their cancer diagnosis are unable to work, pay bills, or pay for medication. Financial assistance recipients must meet eligibility requirements set by the director of the program.

The “Mastectomy Recovery Jackets for Post-Surgery Breast Cancer Patients” program provides breast cancer recovery garments for women who have the most serious, most invasive breast cancer surgeries, such as bilateral mastectomies or TRAM flaps.  Women with these surgeries have limited range of motion and multiple drainage tubes post-operatively, making it difficult and uncomfortable to wear conventional hospital gowns or clothing.
